HOW TO DRAW / HOW TO PAINT

How to Draw / How To Paint?

When starting to draw or getting started to paint something, one needs to know where to start from. This stage sometimes becomes very confusing and in some situations quite easy when one already has an idea to start with. Many of us have done some artwork, drawings and colorings already, mostly as a child in our art class, or back in school.

Drawing or painting can be done on different surfaces; it can be a drawing paper, a drawing book consisting of sheets, wood, a wall or canvas etc.

Drawing/painting can be done professionally and just for fun, relaxation or creativity in spare time. In getting started with drawing/painting as a beginner, no, you do not have to be an experienced person, if you really want to draw and paint, you need to have a craving for it, interest, and concentration that it calls for.

To start a painting an idea or inspiration can play an important role. There can be two main things / ideas that can be the best to start with:

  • Still life: Look around, and you\’ll find something to draw/paint. It can be anything for example, a cup/mug, a bottle, a flower vase, basket etc. Observe those things, the light shining on them, their shadows and their light and dark tones and start imitating them onto your paper.
  • Landscape: Have a look outside at nature and scenery around you and anywhere you go, the sky and its different colors at different hours such as sun rise and sun set and also during the day light. Take a look at the trees, their different light and dark shades and tones and also their shadows and get started with your drawing/painting.

What Medium to Use to Draw/Paint?

\"\"

There are different mediums that you can use to draw and paint your art work. Following are some of the mediums:

Pencils (graphite, color, and charcoal) and Paints mainly (Oil, acrylic and water paints).

Pencil: Pencils come in different types like, graphite and charcoal pencils and in different numbers defining their light and dark shades.

Oil Paint: Oil paint is paint that is made up of pigments mixed with oils. It is slow in drying but on the other hand also easy to mix and merge. It can be used with or without mixing oil. It can be used directly for thicker layer and mixed with a little bit of oil for thinner layer. Oil paint is a traditional type of painting medium used by artists.

Acrylic Paint: Acrylic paints compared to oil paints are quick drying paints. They are water soluble but also have water resistance when they are dried. They can also be used with or without the mixture of water. They can be used directly without mixing the water for thicker layers and with a mixture of water for a thinner look.

Water Paints: Water color paints, as the name suggests, is water soluble and gets transparent when diluted with water. They come in tubes in a moist form and in pans in dried form. To check out some of new painting of our collection click here.
